The Fusion Reactor #27 - Themeless

What? 27? Did I forget how to count? Actually, no. I was very busy this week and wasn't even home to start the broadcast. I decided that rather than throw something together haphazardly, I'd try the "replay" card. This was from quite a while ago, and it looks like it was a bit of a mess itself. Here's the playlist, which was top-notch, even if the actual broadcast did run into some problems.

Hiromi - Keytalk 10:03
Kansas - Distant Vision 08:48
Schleigho - Matrices 01:49
Echolyn - Poem #2/High As Pride 08:00
Herbie Hancock - Hang Up Your Hang Ups 06:49
Iona - Trinity - The Godhead 06:10
Mahavishnu Orchestra - The Way Of The Pilgrim 05:15
Dixie Dregs - Goin' to Town 03:39
Jerry Goodman - Going on 17 07:17
Don Caballero - Well Built Road 06:05
Chick Corea - Johnny's Landing 10:39
Ten Point Ten - The River 05:50
Return To Forever - After the Cosmic Rain 08:25
45 Degrees - Alien Revolt 03:45

What's interesting is that I didn't deem the broadcast good enough to replay the next day. I forget exactly what happened there. However, here it is in its original form, "technical difficulties" and all! Enjoy, if you can!

hear one of my favorite prog/fusion bands of all time - Schleigho - live in concert!

OK, granted, you can't see them, but you can at least hear them....

I started things off with a bunch of cool prog tunes, then we moved on to the live concert. Here's how it all goes down:

You can't get this particular Schleigho recording at your local record store, or even your local internet record store. You can probably find others somewhere, but not this one. This one is free. I do believe you can find it right here though.

The Fusion Reactor #62 - Let's Dance

After last week's torture I thought you might need something easier this week. I sure did. This time I thought it would be nice to do some "dance numbers." If you're into the whole 7/8 polka or 5/4 mambo thing, this one is for you.

In actuality, I don't see how a lot of these could be easily danced to. But that's ok! All I was going for was the name. I was also able to fit in three pairs of dances from three of my fusion favorites - Mahavishnu Orchestra, Return to Forever, and Passport. The Fusion Epic was Miles Davis, and the classic jazz cut was John Coltrane and Don Cherry, with their version of Bemsha Swing. That's the only one that doesn't specifically have "dance" in the title, but you know, it's a kind of a dance, so it all works out.

De Fenestra Rodent Dance 07:32
Al DiMeola Mediterranean Sundance 05:15
Battles DANCE 04:43
Garage a Trois Interpretive Ape Dance 03:03
Bill Bruford's Earthworks The Wooden Man Sings, and the Stone Woman Dances 07:20
King Crimson The Court Of The Crimson King including The Return Of the Fire Witch and The Dance Of The Puppets 09:25
Return To Forever Majestic Dance 05:01
Return To Forever Where Have I Danced with You Before 01:15
Neal Morse Dance With The Devil 09:03
John Coltrane and Don Cherry Bemsha Swing 05:05
Miles Davis Pharaoh's Dance 20:00
Robert Fripp & Andy Summers Painting And Dance 03:25
Mahavishnu Orchestra The Dance of the Maya 07:19
Mahavishnu Orchestra Lila's Dance 05:37
Phish The Moma Dance 04:28
Passport Children's Dance 03:23
Passport Lemuria's Dance 04:40
Jethro Tull Black Satin Dancer 06:53
Pat Metheny and Jim Hall Waiting To Dance 04:38

The Fusion Reactor #61 - Uneasy Listening

Why would I do a show called Uneasy Listening? I don't know but I did. This will probably be a challenge to listen all the way through. After the spoken word introduction by Laurie Anderson, there are only two tunes with singing. Instead, the rule of the day is pretty much chaos, dissonance and noise. There is an interesting mix of R.I.O. prog, experimental fusion, noise rock, free jazz, math rock, and some things I'm not quite sure how to classify.

It looks like a short playlist, but trust me, it's still about two hours of challenging music. Some of these are just longer songs.

So clean out your ears and get them stretched out for what's ahead. This will not be an easy task. You might want to take some asprin to prevent the headache that might be coming. If you can listen all the way through this one, congratulations. You're ready for some modern classical music, much of which is more "out there" than what you'll hear here.

The playlist:

Difficult Listening Hour - Laurie Anderson 03:11
Agraphia - Panzerpappa 06:56
Vieux-manants - Univers Zero 02:54
Contempt - John Zorn 02:54
Nne (Part 2) - Miles Davis 10:11
The Diamond Sea - Sonic Youth 19:36
One For Eric - Jack DeJohnette 09:43
Zero Tolerance for Silence, part 4 - Pat Metheny 05:13
Eventually - Ornette Coleman 04:23
please tokio, please THIS IS TOKIO - Don Caballero 11:18
Normal - Machine and the Synergetic Nuts 07:25
Kraken's Brain is Blasting - KBB 09:36
Allah Be Praised - Tony Williams Lifetime 04:39
Hamef Ahakim - Ahvak 13:32
Uprostred Slov (In the Middle of Words) - Uz Jsme Doma 09:02

Podcasting information! iTunes... not quite yet, but I'm getting there. Sorry for the slowness, but you can now stream or download this episode simply by clicking! Amazing what technology can do, huh!?
