The End is Sort of a Beginning

Apparently ASCAP and BMI are after podcasters to pay royalties. Because twice isn't enough, you know. I paid royalties on this music when I bought it, and again when I broadcast it on ProgPositivity radio. Twice there, actually, and twice on Aural Moon. So perhaps that makes five times. Yet they want some more money so that I can podcast it.

Well I can't pay that kind of money every month. I'll keep on posting playlists and information here, but I won't be updating the podcast anymore and you won't be able to download or stream new episodes from here.

Sorry. I guess your best bet is to tune in to the stations I broadcast on and try to catch it then. I'm slightly partial to http://www.progpositivity.com, since I basically run that station.

Dear Moses,

To say that I'm deeply upset is an understatement. Having said that, I'm not surprised. I've just completed research on Podcasting in Australia and was astonished by what I found. I spoke with the royalties management people, the record companies, the broadcast authority and the Australian record industry - and guess what - THEY All CLAIMED THAT THEY WERE ENTITLED TO PAYMENT - FOR EACH AND EVERY SONG ON EACH AND EVERY PODCAST!!!!!!!!! That is to say, that a podcaster in Australia must pay a fee to all four bodies for each song played in a podcast.

All this will do is drive podcasting underground - which is perhaps where it belongs.

Thank you Moses for the Fusion Reactor - it is without doubt some of the best programming on the planet - not jus for the music which is truly wonderful - but also your style which is warm, entertaining and totally compelling. Please let me know how I can "tune" into the stream and I'll record it from there.

All the best,

Stu of the Antipodes

I too am very sad to this great programme go. I only found it a couple of months ago but became instantly addicted. It opened my ears again to prog which I'm glad to say is alive and kicking. Also being a great fusion fanatic found some great new music.
I will try to tune in to the show when I've worked out the times in the UK.
Thanks Moses

Alas, evil greed runs amok.

I'll be sure to remember this attitude when our cure for cancer, built on the foundation of the work of thousands of scientists, is complete. At some point these corrupt asses will need this cure as their tainted organs will be rotted with undying cancer cells, and then they can pay.

They can pay a royalty check to each of these thousands of scientists all over the world that the cure should be attributed to, because after all, each of these people will have had a hand in the making of the cure.

Free software humans and their collective ilk will receive free treatment.

Sorry about the rant; I suppose the workaround is to record the broadcasts.

Thanks Moses.
